'Achieving the first step in the most difficult condition is a big success'
by Dr Mahdi Motazacker, postdoc at the Academic Medical Center - Amsterdam
We greatly appreciate the originality of the visualisation of 'Success' as a healthy green plant sprouting at an unusual place. Of course, successes can be achieved by following paved paths but succeeding in new, difficult conditions is a real virtue! We believe that this is very applicable to all PhDs who study the unknown and push the edge of scientific knowledge.
We visited Mahdi at the AMC on 7 April to hand over the prize, a set of inspirational books:
|A Short History of Nearly Everything||by Bill Bryson
||'The story of science through the stories of
the people who made the discoveries'
|Bad Science||by Ben Goldacre
||'A critical look on mainstream media
reporting on health and science issues'
|Outliers||by Malcolm Gladwell
