Marja Miedema PhD

Consultant "science and society", Erasmus MC

What to do after your PhD when you do not want to continue in research? Marja faced this difficult question in 2007. By coincidence she stumbled upon a vacancy for Consultant Science and Society. This meant she would be involved in all non-scientific communication of the Cluster Medical Genetics of the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam. She took the job. Since then, she is writing texts for the internet, for brochures and press releases, she is organizing public events and she is enjoying it thoroughly! Marja still cherishes her biomedical training, giving her the opportunity to read scientific papers and to talk to scientists at an academic level. With her office in-between the laboratories, she is still in direct contact with science.

Marja Miedema participated in the networking day of the PCDI Postdoc Retreat Life Sciences 2012 and 2013. She also featured in one of our PCD-You interviews, read here interview here.
