Martijn Wilmer PhD

Postdoc Cell4Pharma, UMC St Radboud

wilmer_m_smallMartijn Wilmer obtained his PhD degree at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre. He developed immortalized human renal cell lines to investigate the cellular metabolism involved in the progression of the rare disorder nephropathic cystinosis. The control cell line (ciPTEC) was patented, because the functional properties allow to study drug-drug interactions and renal toxicity, attracting the attention of the pharmaceutical industry.

In collaboration with the industry, Martijn is exploiting the commercialization of ciPTEC further into a spin-off company, which is stimulated by receiving the 2nd price in the NGI Venture Challenge Spring 2011.

In addition, Martijn is investigating the regulation of renal drug transporters, for which he received a personal Kolff Junior Postdoc Grant of the Dutch Kidney Foundation.

Martijn Wilmer contributed as a speaker to the PCDI Postdoc Retreat Life Sciences 2013.
